Butcher’s-shop roots, proper Sussex hospitality and one firm belief: nobody leaves hungry.

Good food

makes

us who

we are.

Sophie’s Kitchen is a family-run catering company based at Horsham Sports Club, creating generous, made-for-the-moment food for weddings, wakes, parties, corporate events and just about any other occasion that brings people together.

We are not interested in sending out the same standard package every weekend. We want to know who you are feeding, what sort of day you are planning and what will make your guests happy. Then we build the food, service and all the important little details around you.

As a butcher’s daughter, Sophie grew up around proper ingredients, hardworking people and the firm belief that nobody should ever leave hungry. Food was part of family life long before it became a business, so starting Sophie’s Kitchen felt less like a sudden career change and more like something that had been quietly marinating for years.

That family influence still runs through everything we do. Sophie’s younger brother Charlie can usually be found operating the American smoker, while mum Mandy, sister Chloe and the wider family step in for major events and busy functions. The family has grown into a brilliant squad of cooks, organisers, servers, problem-solvers and top-shelf pasta retrievers, but the values have stayed the same.

Use good ingredients. Work hard. Look after people properly.

Sophie’s Kitchen was founded in 2023, when Sophie took over the kitchen at Horsham Sports Club. What started as a vision for good-quality club catering quickly became part of a much bigger community.

Today, the kitchen serves club members, visitors, sporting teams and local businesses, as well as supporting private functions and some of Horsham’s biggest community events. On any given week, the team might be preparing a networking buffet, feeding a sports team, serving a celebration of life or firing up the smoker for a packed summer event.

Horsham Sports Club remains our home, but our food travels. We cater at homes, workplaces and venues across Sussex and the surrounding area, including several brilliant local venues where we have built trusted working relationships.

Bespoke is an easy word to put on a website. For us, it means listening before we start cooking.

Every event has its own people, atmosphere, budget and practical considerations. A relaxed summer wedding needs something different from a corporate lunch. A busy birthday party should not feel like a formal dinner. A wake needs care, discretion and one less thing for the family to worry about.

Our menus are designed as starting points. You might choose canapés and table service, a generous buffet, afternoon tea, sharing platters or whole meats cooked low and slow in our bespoke smoker. We can adapt dishes, accommodate dietary requirements and help you choose food that genuinely suits the occasion.

Whatever you choose, there will be plenty of it.

Brilliant catering is not only about what arrives on the plate. It is knowing when the food should appear, how the room will flow and whether everybody has been offered dessert before the speeches begin.

Sophie and the squad take care of those details from the first conversation to the final plate. We prepare carefully, serve warmly and keep calm when an event inevitably throws in a last-minute surprise.

We are proud to hold a five-star food hygiene rating, but our standards go beyond the inspection certificate. Clean kitchens, thoughtful preparation, reliable service and guests who feel properly looked after are simply how the job should be done.

Behind every buffet, wedding breakfast and smoking barbecue is a team that works incredibly hard and has a very good laugh while doing it.

Some are family by blood. Others have been around so long that the distinction has become fairly meaningless. Between them, they bring decades of catering, hospitality and event experience, along with plenty of personality.

They prep, cook, carry, serve, pour, photograph, organise and occasionally dance in the kitchen. Most importantly, they care about the experience your guests have.

Meet The Squad

Food has a wonderful habit of becoming part of the memory.

It is the canapé somebody goes back for three times. The hot drink handed over on a cold evening. The wedding feast everyone talks about the next morning. The familiar buffet that brings a family together on a difficult day.

Those moments are why we care so much about getting it right.

Tell us what you are planning, who is coming and what good food looks like to you. We will bring the experience, the squad and enough to make sure nobody leaves hungry.
